About Music Academy Asheville

Best of AVL-2024 Gold Winner in Tutoring and Education Services!

Conveniently located in West Asheville, our 18 professional music educators conduct private lessons in a wide variety of music styles and instruments for students of all ages and abilities. We also offer Rock Academy band classes, summer camps, and master classes and workshops in a supportive family-friendly environment. Our instructors are professional music educators, most of whom also perform at local and regional venues. Our Academy is open 7 days a week and weekly lessons can be scheduled to meet the students’ availability. Our approach and results separate us from other music schools in the area and have given us the reputation of being the top privately owned music school in Western North Carolina.

In 2008, founder Anne Coombs’ summer guitar jam camps developed into what is now Asheville’s Rock Academy, a year-round performance studies program. In 2009, Music Academy-Asheville opened at our current location in West Asheville at 1408 Patton Avenue. In 2011, in order to keep music education accessible for students who would otherwise be unable to afford tuition, Give to the Music, a 501©3 non-profit organization was formed to provide tuition for private music lessons, performance classes and summer camps, as well as instruments and musical equipment for children in need of financial assistance. Since our March 2011 inception we have raised over $200,000 and have funded over 250 students for private lessons and summer camps and have gifted more than 100 instruments to children attending the Music Academy-Asheville, Asheville’s Rock Academy, and local high schools and other non-profit organizations.

In 2017, Steve and Dena Clark, who have been involved with The Rock Academy, The Music Academy-Asheville, and Give to the Music since inception, became the new owners. Steve has more than 40 years of financial management experience and Dena, who has a background in commercial insurance, has been on the Give to the Music Board of Directors since its inception. The strengths that these partners have brought to the business has allowed us to grow substantially and will ensure that the school and its programs continue to grow and serve the community well into the future.

WHAT PEOPLE SAY ABOUT US

“We are having a great experience with the Music Academy… Yesterday our daughter had her first recital with other students and the school did a fantastic job of making the event feel special and professional, but also relaxed and low pressure for the kids.”

Emily Muscarella Sule- MAA Parent

“My daughter takes voice lessons and attends Rock Academy. Her coach is wonderful, and my teen loves her. Rock Academy has taught her to work in a group and has been an awesome experience both with the practices and performances. We love watching her grow at the Music Academy both in skill and confidence.”

Maria Moore- MAA Parent

We LOVE The Music Academy both for private lessons AND the Rock Academy during the summer camps. I was raised as a competitive pianist and my mother is a longtime music professor, and if she gives her approval, well, you KNOW it must be great!
