Grant received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 2022 at College of Charleston for cello performance under the instruction of internationally renowned cellist Dr. Natalia Khoma, as well as a minor in Studio Art. Grant has been playing cello since the performance of live orchestra captivated his heart at the age of 12. In the years since, he has spent countless hours performing in the Beaufort Youth Orchestra and College of Charleston Symphony Orchestra, with quartets, small ensembles, summer music camps, as well as in recording studios, weddings, gigs, his self founded instrumental jazz group, playing electric bass in several different bands, and teaching lessons.
As a cello instructor, Grant focuses not only on the theory and technique of playing a string instrument, but also the philosophy that goes into doing so and the language that is music. He emphasizes slowing down and really grasping the methodology of playing something that has shaped musical history and repertoire for hundreds of years, while also inviting a fun and experimental space for new opportunities where strings exist in a more modern context.
A proficient and dedicated musician, Grant knows about the artistic process extensively as a 3rd generation oil painter. In 2021 he was featured as a selected artist by the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art for the Young Contemporaries Series.
